Similar to the hardness testing of various metals used in industry, we, Jews and Christians, are also being tested by God to see whether we developed in our character the right kind and hardness of faith that is necessary to enter God’s Kingdom.

Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates? But I trust that ye shall know that we are not reprobates. (2Cor 13:5-6 KJV)
REPROBATES (G96) = ADOKIMOS
Strong’s Definition: Unapproved, that is, rejected; by implication worthless (literally or morally).
Thayer Definition: Not standing the test, not approved. Properly used of metals and coins. That which does not prove itself such as it ought. Unfit for, unproved, spurious.
Here is another translation, which gives a clearer picture of the verse:
- Test yourselves to see if you are in the faith. Examine yourselves. Or do you not recognize for yourselves that Jesus Christ is in you? -- unless you fail the test. And I hope you will recognize that we are not failing the test. (2Cor 13:5-6 HCSB)
IF YOU FAIL THE HARDNESS TEST OF FAITH, THEN YOU ARE REJECTED BY GOD!
- They are called rejected silver, for the LORD has rejected them. (Jer 6:30 HCSB)
- Your silver has become dross, your wine mixed with water; (Isa 1:22 MKJV)
- Talk no more so exceeding proudly; let not arrogancy come out of your mouth: for the LORD is a God of knowledge, and by him actions are weighed. (1Sa 2:3 KJV)
- ... you do nothing wrong, not that we may appear to pass the test, but that you may do what is right, even though we may appear to fail. (2Cor 13:7 HCSB)
